What is First Sundays?

First Sundays is thewavedn's monthly love letter to soul, R&B and hip-hop. Once a month, the Da Nang community crew takes over the terrace for a night built around the music: slow jams at golden hour, classics everyone knows the words to, and new school as the night gets louder.

thewavedn, also known as The Wave, is a Da Nang community whose motto is "Less Waste. More Waves." Besides First Sundays, they run a free Tuesday run club with a DJ and ice baths.

A night for everybody

First Sundays is for everybody who loves the music. It has also become something bigger: a space where Da Nang's Black expat and traveller community comes together, from people who have lived here for years to people who landed that week.

That is what makes the night special. On the first Sunday of every month, a rooftop in Vietnam shows what an inclusive, welcoming city looks like: different cultures, one dance floor, and nobody on the outside of it.

After being here solo for so long, it was great to find community.

September 2026: dirty south classics vs new age

On Sunday 6 September, thewavedn set southern classics against the new school, "dirty, loud, and a little chillhop inspired," and flew in two DJs from Atlanta.

  1. 6:30PM

    DJ QLTY

    Warm-up

  2. 8PM

    DJ Mia

Lo-fi and new school. Mia is also The Roof's Sunday resident.

  3. 9PM

    DJ Jay Envy

Headliner from Atlanta, and game-day DJ for the NFL's Atlanta Falcons

  4. 10PM

    DJ Throbak

2010s and after. The Los Angeles DJ plays Tuesdays and Fridays at The Roof.

  5. 11:30PM

    DJ Lillie Smalls

Slow jams to close, also from Atlanta

Earlier that afternoon, Paint into the Sunset set up easels on the terrace from 4PM with artist @thihiiii.art_.
