For the whole city, go up Ban Co Peak on the Son Tra Peninsula before 6:30PM. For the coast, drive Hai Van Pass early in the morning. For sunrise, stand on My Khe Beach, which faces east. For sunset, face west: the sun goes down behind the city and the mountains, never into the sea.
That last point is where most guides go wrong. The best sunset views are over Da Nang Bay, or looking back at the city from high up.

Can you see the sun set over the sea in Da Nang?
Not from My Khe Beach. We run a bar above it and see it every evening: at sunset the sun is behind you, and what you watch is the sky over the sea turning gold, then pink. It is beautiful, but it is not a sun sinking into the water.
To see the sun go down over water, look west across Da Nang Bay from Nam O or the north coast road. My Khe is where you see the sun come up out of the sea.

Son Tra
Ban Co Peak
7:30AM–6:30PM
The view that takes in all of Da Nang: the whole city, the curve of the beaches and the open sea, from nearly 600 metres up. The Son Tra routes reopened in September 2025 after nearly three years closed, with stricter rules, so check the latest before you set off.

- By car or manual motorbike on the Yet Kieu road. Automatic scooters and buses over 24 seats are not allowed
- August 2026: the Tien Sa to Ban Co road is closed for storm repairs. Access can be suspended when bad weather is forecast. Stay behind the signs: people have died going to closed spots on the peninsula
Linh Ung Pagoda and the Lady Buddha

The 67-metre Lady Buddha, the coast running south towards Hoi An, and the city lights after dark. The easiest viewpoint on Son Tra, and the one to pair with Ban Co Peak.

North of the city
Hai Van Pass and Hai Van Gate

Mountains on one side, the sea on the other. Turtle Rock, on the first bend up from Da Nang, looks back over Da Nang Bay and Son Tra; from the top you see Lang Co Bay and Lap An Lagoon. Many guides still say the gate is free. It has not been since June 2026.

Nam O Reef
Sunrise
Rock reefs exposed at low tide, covered in green moss from late January to March. Nam O is an old fishing village known for its fish sauce and raw fish salad. Look back across Da Nang Bay from here at sunset.
